Some Common Questions about Mediumship

On this page I will try to answer some of the most asked questions about "Spirit Mediumship", & explain as much as I can about it.

Question - What is Mediumship?

Answer - Well, broadly speaking,  mediumship is the ability to connect with the Spirit world, & to bring forward departed loved ones so that they may once again reconnect with those they've left behind.

Q - What is "Spirit Mediumship"? Is this the Same as "Psychic Mediumship", or "Psychic"?

A  - The way I interpret things is as follows - A Psychic has the ability to tune into a person or object  in order to pick up information. A Psychic Medium can tune into the person or object, but can also bring forward those in spirit & give communications from those that have passed over. I describe myself as a "Spirit Medium" as I tend to work mostly with the spirit world, although, every medium ( & indeed every person to some degree) also possesses psychic ability. As it is commonly said -  "All Medium's are Psychic, but a Psychic isn't necessary a medium".

Q - Why would someone go to see a Medium?

A - Usually someone would seek out the services of a medium or attend a Spiritualist Church to once again re-connect with loved one's they have "Lost". It is comforting to know that those who pass over before us do indeed survive physical death, & are therefore not "Lost" to us at all! While we will obviously miss & grieve for the physical presence of a loved one, it can be very healing to know that they are still watching over us & that they are Ok.

Q - Why is it that Mediums don't get it right 100% of the time?

A - Ah, it is a common misconception that mediumship is akin to having a telephone conversation! I wish it was that easy. No, i'm afraid that most of the time it is a lot more subtle than that. There are many reasons why  medium's are inaccurate at times, such as the medium has mis-interpreted something, or the medium is having an off-night because of ill-health etc. Also, it's worth mentioning that some Spirits find it much easier to connect with one medium than another! This is due to energy compatibility as well as other factors. So your loved one may come through very strongly with one medium but another will feel the same spirit very weakly.

Q - How often should I have a reading?

A- This will vary from person to person. It is nice to hear from those that have passed over & to know that they are still taking an active interest in you, but when it starts to become a crutch that you rely on, then it becomes a problem! Spirit want to see you continue with your life, not holding onto your loss. Usually when someone has lost a loved one, it is a compulsion to know that the person has survived physical death, so they will attend a Spiritualist church or seek out a medium for that reason. No reputable medium will give readings to the same person again & again & again! While Spiritualist churches do have their regulars, those people usually only keep going because they enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Most who attend churches do so for only a short time - just until they are fully re-assured that they're loved ones are safe, well & continuing on in another plane of existence.

Q - How can I tell if a Medium is ethical or just after my money?

A - This is a very good question & should be the first question to ask if considering a Private Reading! An ethical medium will never take advantage of someone in grief by allowing them to return time & time again. Word of mouth is very important too! If someone you know has been to see a Medium & has had a positive experience, then take that into consideration. Unfortunately, there are many charlatans & fraudsters out there, so don't be afraid to ask the medium some questions regarding mediumship background, experience, etc. An ethical medium will not be insulted by questions!

Q - How should I act when I receive a reading?

A - Most importantly - keep an open mind! If you go into a reading with the mindset that your mother will come through & say this or that - then you will leave disappointed!  Not because the medium has necessarily done anything wrong or been inaccurate in any way, but because you have not fully received exactly what you expected. Firstly, no-one can guarantee they will be able to have contact with a specific Spirit, your mother may come forward... or it could be your uncle John that draws close instead! You could even hear from an old schoolfriend or a great-grandparent. It doesn't mean that your mother isn't around you, just that it might not be the right time for her to make contact yet, or another medium may be more amenable for her. Secondly, Spirit will rarely conform to a specific script! What was important to them here (possessions etc.), may not mean as much to them in spirit. Their loved ones will always matter though, & as much as we worry about their wellbeing, they worry about ours!

Q - How Quick can a loved one come through after their physical death?

A - It will depend on the individual Spirit & also the person seeking the loved one. Spirits can & sometimes do make their presence known within hours of their physical death, Yet it will be years before others will. Spirit will not interfere in the bereavement process, so they usually wait until the person can "handle" hearing from them without getting over-emotional or until the person has come to terms with their loss. Remember - A mediumship reading is not an instant cure for the bereavement process, there is much to work through & to come to terms with.
